Past Simple opisuje zakończone wydarzenie, a Past Continuous – czynność trwającą w określonym momencie w przeszłości. Rozwiąż ćwiczenia i sprawdź, czy potrafisz rozpoznać tę różnicę także w zdaniach z when i while.

Past Simple i Past Continuous – szybka ściąga

Element Past Simple Past Continuous
Zdanie twierdzące I worked. / She went. I was working. / They were going.
Przeczenie I did not work. / She didn’t go. I was not working. / They weren’t going.
Pytanie Did you work? / Did she go? Were you working? / Was she going?
Użycie Zakończona czynność, sekwencja wydarzeń Czynność trwająca, tło lub czynność przerwana
Typowe określenia yesterday, last week, then, in 2020 while, at 6 p.m., all evening, when

W zdaniu o przerwaniu czynności dłuższej wydarzenie trwające zwykle występuje w Past Continuous, a krótkie wydarzenie przerywające – w Past Simple. Po when często pojawia się Past Simple, natomiast while zwykle łączy się z czynnością trwającą.

Podczas rozwiązywania zwróć uwagę na najczęstsze sygnały:

  • Past Simple – yesterday, last month, two days ago, then, suddenly
  • Past Continuous – while, at 7 p.m., all morning, at that moment
  • when – często wprowadza krótsze wydarzenie, które przerywa inną czynność
  • while – często wprowadza czynność trwającą w tle lub dwie czynności odbywające się równocześnie
